(Disclaimer: This isn't a ROBLOX SUCKS NOW!! OLD BOBOX BETTER!!! post, it's just a genuine question)
Idk why but modern...GAMING in itself seems so obsolete, unfun and lifeless, like if it died in 2022. Does anyone else feel the same way?

I am. 2022 was much funner. I still play a game made in the late 1990’s
I feel like gaming dried up around 2020 but small games are always so good, like deltarune as an example
Things in general are just different now likely because of the overall lower attention span and need of instant gratification that modern social media has kind of afflicted the masses with. Also, development all across the board is more accessible, which means more stuff.
That ends up with a lot of (but not all) modern games being very flashy (to get and keep attention) and/or fast (and even if they're slow and steady they tend to make a big deal about it in marketing to where it feels obnoxious). I don't play games often but when I do it's usually older stuff, just because it's slower paced and I prefer that sort of stuff usually.
Besides big established companies making stuff or updating old content, there's a lot more indie stuff because it's more accessible to develop. Which means most of it is slop of course, or it's not outright slop and could maybe be called good but are designed to get attention and/or just to appeal to people to make them think it's good. But there's the occasional rare thing that actually feels like it has effort, which is nice, but pretty rare.
I don't actually know any super recent examples of it though, but I also don't pay attention to new game releases as games aren't super my thing.
I think the last indie-ish thing I played for a while was Wobbledogs, and that was very much a thing that felt like it was made with care behind it.
In Roblox games specifically it's honestly a bit more visible where retention bait and designing games where you have to keep coming back (streaks, X happens offline, FOMO events, etc.) are at the top while slower and more friendly games are less active if active at all. Part of that is monetization reasons, but also because most people on this platform aren't playing anything without flashy feedback and instant gratification or pressuring the player to keep coming back to play, and devs are going to be disappointed and burned out if their months or years of work turns into nothing. But it's kind of a problem across the entire video gaming industry, not just Roblox.
Not just you
Literally every game nowadays i've seen just looks so boring
In summary, Roblox is never great. They community complain something every year and Roblox receives drama every year.
I first played Roblox in 2017 and this was the "silent era". I did not know a lot about Roblox and when I played the games it felt silent. I was a guest.
2018 is where I finally have a account and this was the "peak era". So much fun I had, I started to know Roblox more and the history. What’s important that I find those games enjoyable.
You interact more with friends in the old roblox since the engine itself hadnt been able to support "actual games" yet
Now, roblox studio is a proper game engine thats able to make AAA game with complex gameplay, with the recent rise of competitive games like battlegrounds, FPS and trend chasers (Overly abusing bright colors, SFX, gamepass popups, stud textures, afk encouragers and low quality buildings) that can easily mass produced to milk parents' wallet, roblox seems extremely lifeless on the front page especially with the addition of more "professional" renames of basic things like friends and games to connections and experiences
If you really want to feel just some of the older feelings, I recommend you trying games from ~2019/2020, the era when devs try to make their game high quality and uptodated to actually bring a light in the mist of the plague, but pls avoid social hangout games since they are not really healthy and have lots of bad people
I am going to be honest, this seems like a case of being blinded by nostalgia. as fun as "older Roblox" was it wasn't much different then it is now, most games followed the same formats of grinding. everything from 2014 - 2019 had simulator games on the number one spot of the front page 90% of the time, and nowadays its basically the same thing its just that the genre has changed a little
yeah, agreed with both the original post and the replies so far, i can't say anything has hasn't already been said
i myself mostly just play retro games and some good modern ones, if we go purely by original release date my "newest" game is from like 2017 at most
Eh, idk really, I stopped playing dw cuz boring, and forsaken, and adopt me and royale high and the only game I really enjoy is a game is own. (do not recommend me games, I hate certain games.)
What do you think?
