There are 4 pixel hearts each with white outlines. One heart the one that appears directly above the head is colored in a purplish-black. The 4 hearts are aligned in a row and float above the players head. They are not centered symmetrically above the head; the only one that sits directly above the head is the dark-colored heart, and the rest follow along to the left side.
