Build Your Spaceship & Explore The Universe is a Sci-fi Roblox game created by MaxR3d. It was created on August 26, 2010, and since then it has accumulated over 1,000,000 visits and 18,000 favorites. It is updated regularly and was on the front page a lot during 2010 and 2011. However, it was disliked by some portions of the community in its early days due to people believing it was a copying another similar game known as Space Explorers: Build, live on a planet by YO5H1M4N.

MaxR3d transferred ownership of the game two times: first to Hydrablox and TheGeneralSupreme, later to JDLENL when the previous owners moved on. JDLENL is the current owner and developer of the game, with XenonLi as co-owner and developer brought on by her.

Gameplay[]

The core gameplay of Build Your Spaceship & Explore The Universe (BYSS) revolves around a set of common Roblox building tools, as well as a modified version of Building Tools by F3X. Players are also given a suite of other tools including an equippable exosuit, a laser pistol, a laser drill, and a planetary scanning tool, among others. Players are also given a script-based jetpack to explore with (though this feature currently relies on keyboard input), a radio GUI, a coordinates display, and a "save location" GUI which allows the player to store up to 9 locations and teleport between them at will

Players spawn on a planet called Earth (the one unchanging constant since the game's inception in 2010) and are prompted to accept the game's rules before building is enabled. Players use a "spawn part" tool to copy in parts to begin building with, and use a variety of building tools to manipulate parts. Once the player has constructed an adequate space ship, which may just be a single "pilot seat", they are able to set about flying around the universe.

Players are able to mine for ore, pump liquids, and drill asteroids to obtain the game's currency, called Credits. The symbol for credits is . These credits may be spent to obtain unique building parts from a vending machine, although there are currently plans to include more purchasable options. Currently, mining directly translates into credits, but the developers have promised an overhaul to the mining and refining system which will bring an element of progression and factorywork into the game.

BYSS has no true goal, and only a loose story; players are encouraged to build and explore to their heart's content, roleplaying with other players and finding secrets along the way. There is a story sequence to follow, although it is currently mostly for a sense of satisfaction as the previous rewards for completion have been temporarily removed.
