Frappe V4 Cafe Lobby

The lobby of Frappé V4, an experience associated with the café group Frappé®.

Café groups, also known as restaurant groups, retail groups, business groups, or job roleplay groups in general, are a type of roleplay group found throughout Roblox, where users roleplay as the customers, employees, or management of a business (typically a café, per the name), and can order and prepare food and drinks. The vast majority of them have dedicated experiences for roleplay sessions. The café's staff consists entirely of trained group members who interact with customers, who may or may not be group members. They are similar to ro-states in that users roleplay jobs they do not actually hold, in entities that do not actually exist.

Though its name comes from cafés, the most well-known variant of such group, various other similar roleplay groups exist that technically fall under this banner, including restaurants, retail stores, and other businesses, though "café group" is still suitable as a catch-all term. Notable examples include Frappé®, Tsunami Sushi, and BloxStreet Corporation.

Café groups and their experiences are popular for roleplay and hangouts. However, they also tend to attract trolls and raids; hence, such experiences are usually heavily moderated, with moderators usually on-call or actively patrolling populated servers.

Gameplay[]

Gameplay in café group experiences involves ordering food and drinks, almost always without paying Robux or even an in-game currency ("money" is exchanged within roleplay). Players either order food, prepare and serve the food, or enforce the group's rules. The latter two options are typically only done by group members (which also must be given specific ranks within the group), so as to ensure a controlled roleplaying environment; non-members are generally restricted to serving as customers.

There is rarely other gameplay associated with café group experiences, such as finding hidden badges, earning in-game currency, or completing other tasks; the primary goal of these experiences is simply roleplay.

Ranks[]

Café groups use group ranks to determine who can do what in their group. These ranks reflect positions at real cafés and restaurants, typically divided into trainees, employees, and managers. Typically, if a user wants to work at a café, they must pass an interview or application. In some groups, additional training may be required.

Once users can begin working at the group, they'll be considered a low rank (LR). These users are allowed to serve food to customers and will get promoted depending on their skill at work. Some groups use training sessions, where users are quizzed on their knowledge of group rules and procedures, to decide who to promote. Low ranks usually are not permitted to manage the restaurant and deal with rulebreakers, but instead must contact middle ranks (MRs) or high ranks (HRs). And in some cases senior/super high ranks (SHRs) Middle and high ranks and senior high ranks will supervise employees and customers to make sure that everybody is following the rules. They'll usually use admin powers to enforce these rules. Middle and high ranks also promote employees and will host sessions.
