Heads (retroactively known as classic heads to avoid confusion with Dynamic Heads) are Marketplace assets that change the mesh of an avatar's head. There were a total of 16 heads, none of them being limited or limited unique. Heads are a category on the Marketplace along with Hair, Classic Heads and Classic Faces.
History of Heads[]
Most heads were released on December 17, 2008, with the exceptions of the "Fat Head", "Peabrain", and "Diamond", which were released February 1, 2009.
Due to the unpopularity of the original heads back in 2008 to 2009, Roblox stopped making separate heads for a while until January 2017, when they started making separate heads again that are all suited to be able to wear hats on them.
On January 16, 2017, all heads, except the Roundy, Trim and Blockhead, were taken off-sale. This resulted in the community being disappointed and strongly disliking the change because the Peabrain was highly liked by the community. However, 5 new heads were released, and those 5 heads are currently on-sale.
When Rthro was released on October 22, 2018, Roblox started making new heads to be bundled with Rthro. These heads can often be found used in meme/troll avatars due to how small and out of place they look when equipped onto most non-Rthro bundles or the default body. They are often paired with other meme items such as the BFG Giant Ears as well as both the Chill and 3.0 Man and Woman faces.
On August 19, 2020, the classic heads from 2008 and 2009 were updated with slightly new meshes. This had caused a rumor that Roblox would bring back the classic heads.
List of heads[]
This is a list of all Roblox heads excluding heads which were created specifically for bundles (besides the Headless Head and iBot Head).
Files[]
There are 17 different types of mesh files inside of the Roblox local fonts file, which contains every mesh of these heads, including the normal Head, Roundy, Trim and Blockhead, the off-sale catalog heads which do not use a special mesh ID, but use Bevels which were removed. These are now seen as identical cylinder meshes and normally break when the humanoid is removed, however the mesh files do not break as they are special meshes.
Trivia[]
This section is a trivia section. Please relocate any relevant information into other sections of the article.
- From 2006 to 2009, zooming into the players head would show a hidden circle inside the mesh of the default head, confusing some players.
- In 2017, Roblox made a controversial decision to remove most of the old Roblox heads. Many people hated this decision since they feel as this is erasing Roblox's history.
- In March 2021, a bug caused most avatar heads to appear as the classic default head. This bug was only for the thumbnail and did not affect anything in-game. It was fixed sometime in late 2021.
- A large amount of classic heads were affected (such as Roundy, Trim, and Blockhead); however, newer heads (such as Junkbot, Denny, and Linlin) were also affected.
