Clothing stores, also known as UGC stores or homestores, are types of experiences made by UGC creators that create avatar assets such as clothing and accessories to showcase and sell their user-generated content. These types of experiences were originally made by classic clothing designers, but have since been adopted for other types of avatar assets.
Clothing store experiences are made to offer an alternative to browsing a creator's inventory (or a group's store) or their select page on the marketplace for their on-sale items. They can be directly advertised, effectively allowing for the creator or group's whole inventory to be advertised instead of only one item. Occasionally, stores will have other interactive elements, usually roleplay-related.
They are built in the manner of real-life clothing stores with mannequins and purchase prompts to allow visitors to physically browse, view, and possibly try on their items before buying them for use across the Roblox site on their avatar.
Other types of clothing stores[]
These are other forms of experiences intended to sell avatar assets outside of the typical single-designer or single-group setup.
Malls[]
Clothing malls are a different type of clothing-store experiences usually modeled after real-life shopping malls, sometimes used by clothing-company groups with many designers. They consist of smaller stores within a large area, with each small store focusing on a specific player and their items.
Some clothing malls, such as ScriptOn 's Grand Mall of Robloxia or GrottyPuff's Creator Mall, exist for users to set up temporary shops in which they can sell their clothing or clothing by other clothing designers.
Showcases[]
Clothing showcases are a form of clothing store intended to display specific types of items that adhere to a particular theme. These are sometimes for a single designer, or consist of many designers that have applied their items (mainly clothes) to be featured with the theme.
In some instances, these showcases are utilized partially to hold a user-held event to debut a collection of items created for the showcase theme, which are later sold in the showcase. These events are usually held in the manner of a fashion show and sometimes have NPCs or other players modeling the items to show to users attending before they are presented an area to purchase them. The place may either be programmed to make the items automatically available during or after the event, or otherwise be updated manually after to function as a showcase store.
History[]
Clothing stores in Roblox were originally only seen by larger inventory classic clothing designers and clothing or fashion groups.
The "Best use of in-game purchasing" Hall of Fame category at ROBLOX BLOXcon 2013 had two nominated places (out of three) that were clothing stores or included clothing stores, Kestrel's Home Store and Grand Mall of Robloxia. Kestrel's store won the category.
Clothing stores were more-desired by classic clothing designers when Royale High began featuring clothing stores starting in early 2019 to support original classic clothing creators during classic clothing theft and catalog spamming issues on the marketplace. Royale High later invited its featured stores to participate in its Easter 2019 and Halloween 2019 events with item hunts in the stores, which drove some of the stores to the Popular section of the Discover page during the event. The experience's Halloween 2020 event had rewards in-experience from the Halloween 2019 clothing store events which also prompted users to visit the clothing designers' stores. This had increased the interests of classic clothing designers to create their own stores to be featured in Royale High, until Royale High established strict requirements on stores and stopped opening applications for them frequently.
A clothing store by UGC creator Antilique, Antilique's Vet Clinic, was on the Featured sort of the Discover page during the week of April 22, 2019 to April 29, 2019.[1] It received backlash from some Developer Forum members due to it being an unfamiliar genre of experience to be featured.
