Content maturity (formerly Age recommendations) are a rating system for experiences that helps users make informed decisions about the content they interact with on Roblox. The age recommendation for a particular experience is based on a questionnaire that the developer fills in. The questionnaire asks questions about the experience's content, such as whether it includes blood or violent themes. Completing the questionnaire is not mandatory for developers; and experiences with incomplete questionnaires are marked "N/A". There are currently five categories: N/A, Minimal, Mild, Moderate, and Restricted.
Accounts whose birthdate indicates that they are below the recommended age for an experience rated 17+ or those who are not ID verified will not be able to play it. Additionally, users can set restrictions for what age-recommended experiences they are allowed to play, regardless of their birthdate.
The content maturity system was introduced on November 18, 2024[1], following the deprecation of the former "age recommendation" system.
The guidelines used to determine the former age recommendation system were supported by child development research based on industry standards.[2]
Age ratings[]
Each rating has a Roblox-recommended minimum age; however, users (or parent accounts linked to a user) may change the level of experiences they can access in their Content maturity settings (with the exception of N/A experiences, which are always gated to 13+ users).
Rating | Description |
---|---|
N/A (Ages 13+) | Questionnaire has not been completed by developer. Experiences without completed questionnaires are marked 13+ by default. |
Minimal (All Ages) | Content is generally suitable for all ages. May contain occasional mild violence, light unrealistic blood and/or occasional mild fear. |
Mild (Ages 9+) | Content is generally suitable for ages 9 and up. May contain repeated mild violence, heavy unrealistic blood, mild crude humor and/or repeated mild fear. |
Moderate (Ages 13+) | Content is generally suitable for ages 13 and up. May contain moderate violence, light realistic blood, moderate crude humor, social hangout, free-form user creation, unplayable gambling content and/or moderate fear. |
Restricted (Ages 17+) | Content is only suitable for ages 17 and up. May contain strong violence, heavy realistic blood, moderate crude humor, romantic themes, unplayable gambling content, the presence of alcohol, strong language and/or moderate fear. These experiences are only available to 17+ users who verified their ages by uploading a selfie and a photo of their government-issued ID.[note 1][3] |
