SpongeBob Simulator (titled as SpongeBob SquarePants Simulator) is a licensed multiplayer online game in the SpongeBob SquarePants franchise developed by Gamefam Studios under the name Gamefam x SpongeBob and officially licensed by Nickelodeon, therefore it will not be copyright striked. It is freely available as an experience on the Roblox platform. It was initially released on September 9, 2023 as paid beta and launched officially on February 2, 2024.
History and Development[]
Since 2021, Roblox has been removing lots of unofficial SpongeBob SquarePants experiences from the Roblox platform via DMCA takedowns filtered by Paramount Global as well as famous SpongeBob SquarePants Roblox experiences such as "The Spongy Construction Project" which was high quality and very popular.
In February 2023, it was announced that Gamefam Studios partnered with Paramount Global and Nickelodeon and brought SpongeBob SquarePants and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles experiences to Roblox. The names for the games are SpongeBob Simulator and TMNT: Battle Tycoon.

A first look image would be released by the RLBXNews Twitter on March 2, 2023.[1] Around this time many more leaks would show up on leak accounts, showing several early character models.
On September 9, 2023, the game was released in beta for 99 Robux was launched on February 3, 2024.[citation needed]
On October 7, 2023, the game is in second beta phase with its price being decreased to 49 Robux with Jellyfish Fields being released. Squidward's secrets was also released where the player will need to collect secrets to earn Primitive SpongeBob skin and the Le Spatula UGC item.
On January 13, 2024, the game's price changed to 25 Robux, being similar to other Roblox games that cost 25 Robux such as Welcome to Bloxburg but fans were still wanting the game to be free.
On January 20, 2024, the game became free in its pre-launch with many revamps and additions. A date for the launch was revealed as well, with the launch date proposed to be January 26, 2024.
On January 25, 2024, the game's release was delayed to February 2, 2024.
On February 2, 2024, the game officially launched with new features being added, the spawn being revamped, and the sponsored Super Bowl LVIII cross promotional event which the player has to complete certain NFL related tasks around several Gamefam games, including SpongeBob Simulator, TMNT: Battle Tycoon, Super NFL Tycoon, Twilight Daycare, and Easy Obby to earn UGC[2] and other prizes. SpongeBob himself also appears in the games that the event is sponsored in so that people can do the tasks. That event ended on February 19, 2024.
In SpongeBob Simulator, during the Super Bowl event, the player would need to destroy 200 Wooden Chests and collect 58 items around the Tailgate for a football mount and a Super Bowl SpongeBob shoulder pal.
On March 4, 2024, a special event dropped with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles-themed awards. This is the first event in SpongeBob Simulator to not be related to the game or the SpongeBob SquarePants franchise. On the first section of Conch Street, the player can visit Splinter where he will give the player quests, just like what he did in TMNT: Battle Tycoon.
The player can claim buddies based on the turtles, such as Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Donatello. The player can also obtain the Pizza Van if they destroy 300 Graffiti Drills or Safes in Conch Street and collect 50 ooze canisters, pizza Boxes or License plates in Conch Street and Jellyfish Fields. This is to promote the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem movie in collaboration with Playmates Toys.
On March 15, 2024, Roblox has released its event called The Hunt: First Edition where UGC awards can be obtained from this event and the player must complete quests around several Roblox games such as Piggy, Pet Simulator 99, Military Tycoon, SpongeBob Simulator, Sonic Speed Simulator, and Twilight Daycare. In SpongeBob Simulator, the player will need to do a quest which is destroy 55 chests in Area 1, destroy 100 doubloon piles in Area 2, and destroy 25 drills in Area 3. Once doing those quests, the player can earn a badge. The entrance to this game's quests can also be seen in The Hunt: First Edition Hub.
On June 21, 2024, the SpongeBob 25th Anniversary Special Event was released as SpongeBob Simulator is also part of that event.
Gameplay[]
When the player first joins the game, the player will see the main menu featuring the Bikini Atoll island in the background and they will spawn in the first section of Conch Street, with the rest being unlocked by using doubloons and rubies. These doubloons can be obtained by destroying several rocks, crates, chests, and drills throughout the map.
Buddies are the main way to progress through the game, in the game, you unlock several eggs, which are the way to obtain said buddies. They can be opened with a certain number of rings, as the eggs go on, they become much more expensive to purchase, although the stats of the buddies are much better in the more later and expensive eggs.
The player can also obtain skins which the player needs to do quests to earn them. The player can also purchase a boatmobile for 249 Robux.
Each zone is guarded by Plankton and his guardian robots and must be defeated before accessing newer zones.

Criticism[]
This experience was criticized for being paid access while the beta was live, costing 49 Robux to join. This game has also received criticism for being a clone of another popular simulator game Pet Simulator X and Pet Simulator 99.

- On October 7, 2023, one free limited item was released called Le Spatula. The player must complete Squidward's Secrets to unlock the cave in order to get Le Spatula. Le Spatula was sold out on October 14, 2023.

SpongeBob 25th Anniversary Event[]
The 25th anniversary event.
On June 21, 2024, a SpongeBob 25th Anniversary cross promotional event occurred in which the player could have completed certain SpongeBob SquarePants related tasks in several Gamefam games, including SpongeBob Simulator, TMNT Battle Tycoon, Car Dealership Tycoon, Tower of Misery, and Twilight Daycare, to earn UGC and other prizes. SpongeBob also appeared in the games that the event was present in so that people could have done the tasks. The event ended on July 18, 2024.
In SpongeBob Simulator, during the first week of the event, the player would have needed to destroy 50 Band Geek Nodes and find 50 Instruments. During the second week, the player would have needed to defeat 20 Planktopolis Mech Bosses stages, find 50 Plankton parts, and find 4 boss spawner parts. During the third week, the player would have needed to collect 50 Krabby Patty ingredients. During the fourth and final week, the player would have needed to cook 50 Krabby Patties. The event introduced many new features and zones such as Planktopolis, Krusty Towers, Boss Spawners, and the Krabby Patty Cooking Minigame.
