Genres group models, games, and marketplace items in specific categories to help a user find something to wear, take, or play. For example, if a game was set in the wild west, it would go under the Western genre.

The Genres filtering was removed on October 26, 2017, for an apparently unknown reason. This caused a bit of outrage in the forums after it was removed. However, the Genre filtering still exists in the avatar shop. It also still exists in the Library, but it no longer works. The feature was brought back on March 31, 2023, however it only does search the word of the genre you clicked.[1] The return of the Genres filtering feature was first announced by Roblox Staff xoroshoh on March 11, 2023, in a reply to a comment in the DevForum.[2]

A notice regarding experience genres.

In the August 8, 2024, update for the Roblox Creator Roadmap, it was announced that experience genres were planned to be improved upon and have the ability to be filtered by late 2024.[3] In addition, a similar notice was added around the same time to experience pages.
