Guilded is a VoIP, instant messaging and digital distribution platform developed by Guilded Inc. and owned by Roblox Corporation.[1] Users can communicate with voice calls, video calls, text messaging and media files in private chats, making it a competitor with another communication platform known as Discord. It is based in San Francisco.[2]
The platform is primarily focused on video game communities, such as those focused on competitive gaming. It provides features for video gaming clans, such as scheduling tools and integrated calendars.[3][4]

Guilded was founded by Eli Brown on March 17, 2017, who was a former Meta Platforms and Xbox employee.[5]
Acquisition[]
On August 16, 2021, the Roblox Corporation acquired Guilded for $90 million. Once it was acquired, it became an independent group of the company.[6][7]
Controversies[]
On May 31st, 2024, Guilded announced that all current and future accounts will be required to have a Roblox account linked before July 15th, 2024 in order to continue using their account.[8] This change was met with lots of community backlash with some users bringing up the fact that when Roblox purchased Guilded in 2021 they said it would remain an independent product. [9]
