On Roblox, each item, user or group are given a unique number known as an ID (short for identifier) used to access data of the item/user/group through the Roblox website or its API. Roblox automatically generates each ID by adding one to the highest ID of its type (for example, if the highest ID is 123, the next ID to generate will be 124). Each user/group/item page has an ID that can be found in the URL.

Types

There are a total of eight ID types:

• User ID (users/ID)
• Group ID (groups/ID)
• Asset ID (Creator Marketplace: library/ID or create.roblox.com/marketplace/asset/ID, marketplace: catalog/ID, places: games/ID)
• Bundle ID (bundles/ID)
• Pass ID (game-pass/ID)

ID surfing is a practice of looking up an item, group or user with an ID of a rare number, sometimes referencing to popular culture. Since ID surfing is relatively common, users with popular rare IDs are more susceptible to password guessing.

Trivia

• There was a case of IDs being swapped in which the accounts of Shedletsky and Telamon swapped their IDs. This was prior to the username change feature being released. Shedletsky announced that the reason why he swapped IDs of Telamon and Shedletsky was because he outgrew his previous username.
• An item/user/group page was primarily accessed through the ID contained in a query string (?ID=), but Roblox now uses the ID in a path instead (e.g. users/1234567890/).
  • Assets were known as items before this change; this can proven by using name-item?ID= followed by a specific number in the URL. Users still can access asset pages this way.
