The intern flair used on the developer forum.

An intern is a person (usually a student enrolled in college) who is involved in a limited period of work offered by an organization or an employer with the intention of gaining relevant skills and experience in a particular field of work. In addition, an internship can be used to create a professional network that can assist with future job opportunities via hands-on learning, preparing one for full-time work following graduation.

On Roblox, internships consist of an exchange of services for experience between the intern and Roblox, and are usually arranged annually on the DevForum. In some cases, former interns will be hired by Roblox as official staff members, due to meeting specific requirements of an available job role and their familiarity with the Roblox platform.

Accelerator program[]

Interns participating in the accelerator program were different from regular interns. Accelerator interns formed a team of up to five developers and created a game with the support of Roblox staff and with access to extra resources and funding.

The requirements for the accelerator program prior to its sunset were:[1]

  • All participants must be 18+ years old by the start of the internship.
  • All teams must consist of 2-5 developers.
  • Each team needs a designated team leader.

Prior to COVID-19, accelerators were required to work full-time at the Roblox HQ, although the program would later become virtual. International accelerators were helped with the US exchange visa process by Roblox Corp. The program lasts approximately 12 weeks. Prior to the program's sunset, accelerators were paid over $13,000 each with an extra $1,000 for technology. Accelerators were not paid for relocation and were expected to organize housing themselves.

On November 7, 2022, Roblox announced that the accelerator program would be retired following the fall 2022 class. The announcement cited many reasons for the program's retirement, primarily surrounding the introduction of other programs that have similar goals to the accelerator program, such as the Roblox Game Fund.[2]

Incubator program[]

According to this official post, the Incubator Program was where Roblox developers aim to produce creations that are currently difficult to create on the Roblox platform, developers are asked to make challenging and hand picked creations that will impact Roblox. Incubators work with the Engineering and Product teams to help shape the future of Roblox.

The program runs for 20 weeks (5 months)

Similarities with accelerators[]

  • You must be 18 years old by the start of the program
  • Many universities do provide credit for these programs
  • You do not need to be in the US (Roblox will help with visas)
  • Housing is your own responsibility
  • You are paid enough to live comfortably near the HQ in a roommate situation
  • Both programs require participants to work full-time at the Roblox HQ
