The Sword, also known as the Linked Sword, is an iconic melee weapon, created by Shedletsky[1] in April 2007[2][3]. They have a very close range and can do very high damage very quickly. All swords can slash, but most can also lunge for greater reach and damage. Lunging can also make the player go upwards in the air a bit, allowing them to jump higher than normal. To slash, click once with the sword. To lunge, double-click. It was later uploaded to the marketplace as a LimitedU gear on August 2, 2013.

Function[]

The Sword deals 5 damage upon contact with a living entity, 10 damage when a user clicks once to slash, and then 30 damage when the user lunges by double-clicking. The lunge also gives the user a slight horizontal velocity, allowing them to gain extra air time during jumps. This might not always be the case, since people sometimes edit sword scripts so they do more or less damage in-game.

Notability[]

This sword is considered to be a significant part of Roblox's history for being one of the later additions to the seven BrickBattle tools that a player spawns with in games such as Crossroads and Chaos Canyon. It is also known for being the starter weapon in Sword Fights on the Heights IV as well as being the basis for all the other unique swords found in the game.

Swordfighting[]

A swordfight is a fight between multiple people using swords. The goal is usually to knock out opponents while keeping your own health. Some end in less than a second, with all participants having wiped out each other, but others may end in a few more seconds. Some places are made just for sword fighting, from sword training places built by clans to some of the most popular places on Roblox, such as TheGamer101's Sword Fighting Tournament, or Shedletsky's Sword Fight on the Heights.

Swordfighting forms[]

The first sword fighting form use was first person mode. Where you would zoom into first person and attack like that. It would work well back then when you could get into first-person and then sidestep and kill a player. But now the most commonly used is shift lock. Shift lock allows the same results as 1st person, except for one improvement, the ability to see behind you. This is good when you are in a fight with a group of people, so you can be aware of your surroundings.

Tips[]

Wielding sword

A player with a sword equipped.

  • Since the sword's region of damage is usually directly in front of the blade, it is more effective to attack the player from the left of their character model.
  • The sword's hitbox goes through walls, remember that!
  • When using the sword spinning is a good idea because you can dodge and attack at the same time. This can cause your sword to damage your opponent multiple times.
  • The sword can be used to float in the air for a short amount of time by double clicking. Use this to jump higher and further than normally possible, this can also be used for dodging techniques and to jump over opponents with less danger of being hit.
  • If someone jumps over you, turn around and lunge at them.
  • Try and enter battle with your health at max. Every bit of health helps.
  • The person who gets in the first hit usually wins.
  • The guy with the gun loses in a melee fight. Get in close if the person has a gun without a close range function.
  • The Sword does not collide with objects, allowing you to hit people easier without falling over.
  • The more parts hit, the more damage. Damage is inflicted through the amount of parts hit.
  • You can change direction mid-jump. If you're being attacked and need to run, hit the S key or down arrow and get out of there!

Trivia[]

This section is a trivia section. Please relocate any relevant information into other sections of the article.

  • It was the second-to-last object to be added to the basic BrickBattle loadout. The title for the last object would go to the Paintball Gun.
  • The original code for the sword didn't give players the ability to slash or lunge. It also did not have the infamous swish and lunge sounds.
  • It is found in most sword fighting games.
  • It is based on the Italian Bastard Sword.
    • The Name "Bastard" refers to how the Italian Sword cannot be classified as specifically either a Two Handed Sword or One Handed Sword, as you can wield it with both or one hand, hence the name "Bastard".
  • From its creation, the sword has inspired many more swords, the most prominent of which are the ones in the SFOTH IV Swords.
  • The original model for the Linked Sword is from TurboSquid, created in Autodesk Maya and dated January 19, 2002. The Roblox version was slightly modified with the reflection area of the texture removed.[4]
  • The icon for the sword resembles a Steel Great Scottish Claymore Sword.
