- Not to be confused with the Model class which shares the same name but has a different function.
A model is a type of instance data. Unlike places, models are intended to be inserted into the engine's data model rather than being loaded in full.
Models are also an asset type and a category in the Creator Marketplace. Models that are published onto the Creator Marketplace for other users to use are known as free models. Some asset types like decal or accessories are in the form of models, and consequently, InsertService:LoadAsset can be used to insert assets of these types including models.
In Roblox Studio, a model can be saved as a file in either binary (.rbxm) or XML (.rbxmx) format or uploaded to the Creator Marketplace. The toolbox allows browsing the Creator Marketplace and inserting model assets from it.
