Mysterious Objects Riddles was a contest that took place from August 9, 2007, to August 16, 2007. Users were tasked to solve Mysterious Objects' riddles in order win the contest.
Background[]
Initially, before the contest, clockwork and Shedletsky were creating hats to accompany the Builders Club's release. Clockwork had an idea of publishing a hat that was a box to see if anyone would buy it. After discussing the box during lunch, they decided to create two more and label them as Mysterious Object to make them seem more mysterious. On August 9, 2007, Shedletsky published three items named Mysterious Object I, II, and IV that could be purchased for 50 Tix each, the items were made to transform into something else later on. After seeing the number of mystery boxes being sold, Shedletsky decided to give the items a riddle for Mysterious Object III as a prize which led to the start of the contest.[1]

Puzzles[]
Each Mysterious Object has a haiku on the items' description that described what the hat would turn into. The clues ranged from easy to hard.
Haiku #1[]

Threaded fastener,
Twist around; face them! Hold fast –
Lest they be faster.
This haiku could be found on Mysterious Object I's description and was considered to be on easy difficulty. This box was later transformed into Screw.
Haiku #2[]

Curdled, but dauntless
Struggle for your dignity
But beware of mice
This haiku could be found on Mysterious Object II's description and was considered to be on medium difficulty. This box was later transformed into Cheese Hat.
Haiku #3[]

Dios Achilleus:
One head among thousands when
Illium died in fire
This haiku could be found on Mysterious Object IV's description and was considered to be hard. the box was revealed to be the Coif of Glory. The first line is referencing to Dios Achilleus, a Greek city. There was also a part when it mentions Iliad which was a story of the sacking of troy by the Greek army.
Haiku #4[]

Void Star to zer0,
Foolishly dereferenced.
No call stack. All g0ne.
This was originally the third haiku that could be found on Mysterious Object III, which appeared under the Recently Updated hats list. However, it has been scrapped due to the haiku being too difficult for many people. The haiku is a reference to dereferencing a pointer to 0 (NULL), as this action could result in undefined behavior and usually could crash a program. It also mentioned call stack, the structure that stores data regarding active subroutines of a computer program.
The Quest[]
After players completed all the puzzles, a blog post hinted that the next clue could be found in the Sword Fights on the Heights,[2] people could find four different bricks that, when touched, would print one of the 4 haikus. If one opened the map in Roblox Studio and found the script for brick #3, there was a line at the end of the code:
– Ah, the mysterious number three. Perhaps the most mysterious of all. The Garden of Proserpine. Dead dreams of days forsaken…
The hint was quickly found to be a reference to Algernon Charles Swinburne's The Garden of Proserpine. It was discovered that there is a user named Swinburne which has a private friends-only place named "HERE, where the world is quiet", a reference to the first line of The Garden of Proserpine poem.[3] Users who messaged Swinburne with their correct guesses for haikus of Mysterious Object I, II, and IV were accepted to be Swinburne's friend.
In the place, there were four spheres which correspond to specific lines of The Garden of Proserpine, users were tasked to collect all the spheres in the correct order. The lines of the poem are:
Dead dreams of days forsaken,
Blind buds that snows have shaken,
Wild leaves that winds have taken,
Red strays of ruined springs.
After collecting all the orbs, users could go to the Greek Temple in which Mysterious Object III is hidden. Inside the temple, there is a reflective box that told people to message Swinburne with the password “ALGERNON”. The players who solved the puzzle received the Mysterious Object III item.
Winners[]
After August 16, 2007, Swinburne stopped accepting friend requests because Mysterious Object III was for people who had solved some part of the mystery themselves.[1] There are only 14 winners who made it all the way to the end, they completed the puzzle in the following order:
- blXhd
- Koontay
- duck
- shanethe13
- Twila27
- Faust
- MetalMario
- Anaminus
- miked
- legofreak55

The Mysterious Object III item was eventually turned into The Void Star Gift Box, which opened to reveal the Void Star crown.
