The Island

The Island is a survival story experience that was developed by Math_LuaScript. Players find themselves stranded on an island and must collect resources to survive and find a way off the island. The story aims to teach players about the dangers of climate change. The game is inspired by SamsonXVI 's game Camping.

Gameplay[]

Players can departure into the story by going on one of the 3 ferries in the game, one of which is a shortened version of the full story. Players can also buy in-game items to help them during their time in the story.

Story:[]

Day 1[]

The story starts with everyone on a ferry, along with the captain, an NPC named bob. The players are excited to go on vacation when the engine on the ferry suddenly fails, forcing Bob to stop at the nearest Island. The boat catches on fire, tasking the players to take out the fire and save Bob. Bob then tells the players that it will take a few days to fix the boat, meaning that the players will have to spend their time on the Island until then. The players are then tasked to look for food. Then, they must find wood on the beach to build shelter. At night, the players huddle up against the fireplace when lightning suddenly strikes, revealing that a Ghost has been protecting the island against people trying to take it's resources. The players think nothing of it and decide to head to sleep.

Day 2[]

The players wake up to a rainy day. They decide to talk to Bob about the Ghost, but Bob assures them that it was just a dream. The players then eat coconuts while Bob says they will scavenge for more food later. Bob tells the players that lightning is coming and warns them to be careful of the strikes. Players with the warning decide to get more food alongside the berries found in the bushes. Bob then realizes that the island will flood from the heavy rain, and tell the players to seek higher ground. The flood then lowers and drifts back into the ocean, allowing the players to go back to their shelter. Again, the players huddle up against the fireplace with Bob going to bed early. The Ghost appears above the fireplace again, telling them that they will regret what they did to their island. The players have a conversation about the event and decide to get some sleep for the following day.

Day 3[]

The players wake up and make a plan to not destroy the resources on the Island. They decide that they will make a raft out of recycled driftwood. Bob wakes up and decides to chop down the trees, but the players tells him not to, as it will harm the resources on the island. They scavenge for wood on the beach, completing the raft. The players tell each other to quickly get on the raft before a huge wave crashes over the island, forcing everyone to seek high ground once again. Unfortunately, the raft was destroyed in the wave, leaving no way off the island. A storm develops during the night and Bob tells everyone to get some sleep. However, Bob realizes that they need to find a light source and decides the fireflies would be a good choice. They then task the players to find fireflies around the island. The players talk about how the weather is getting crazier, theorizing that the Ghost has a part to play in the unnatural weather. They then decide to sleep through the night.

Day 4[]

Bob wakes up and tells the players to help him cut down trees. They tell him that the Ghost will punish them if they do, so Bob agrees but says that they will be stuck on the island until then. The players explore the island to try and find another way off the island. Then, a meteor shower occurs, forcing Bob and the players to take shelter in a cave under the mountain. The players realize that the cave was filled with lava and also that the rocks behind them caved them in. The Ghost appears and gives them two minutes to escape, with the lava rising. Once the players finish the course, they have to stay clear of the exit before extra lava come out. A volcano then rises from the ocean and starts to erupt, releasing rocks into the air which the players have to dodge. Once the shower is over, Bob believes that the tectonic plates had something to do with the eruption, but the players disagree and are convinced that the Ghost is responsible. However, Bob still refuses to believe in ghosts. The ash from the volcano fogs up the island. Later, Bob remarks how lucky they were to have fireflies for light sources. The players and Bob decide to get some sleep, but then they hear a noise. Bob then goes out to inspect what the noise was, but then lightning strikes, causing Bob to disappear. The players try to find Bob around the island. When they find him, it is already the next day.

Day 5[]

The rain had stopped, but another flood forces everyone to seek high ground once again. Bob then says that he does not know what to do, until a helicopter is heard. They wave at it, getting the helicopters attention and getting on. Bob is the last one and is about to climb on when the Ghost appears, stopping them from flying off. They reason with the Ghost, stating that they were only trying to go on vacation and didn't intend to destroy the resources on the island. The Ghost realizes that the players are unaware of Bobs true intentions, saying that Bob had been the mastermind all along. The Ghost talks about the state of the Earth - how the burning of fossil fuel produces too much pollution and carbon dioxide, trapping heat in the Earth's atmosphere, and noting the immense amount of garbage and plastic on beaches and the ocean. The players learn that the Ghost only wanted to stop people from harming the environment, teaching that plants like trees are essential for turning the extra carbon dioxide into oxygen. The Ghost reveals that Bob had purposely failed the boat's engine so that the players could clear the island for him to start a company and build his factory. They also reveal that Bob always had the technology to call for help but didn't. Asking Bob why he kidnapped them, Bob unintentionally tells the players that he did it for money. The players then decide to leave Bob behind on the island and ask the Ghost for their name. The Ghost replies, introducing themselves as Steve and apologizes to them for ruining their vacation. The players then promise to help save the Earth as the helicopter flies away.

A cutscene shows Bob speaking into a walkie-talkie, revealing that he is starting his backup plan.
