Crossover Sonic 3D RPG is a roleplaying/hangout Sonic the Hedgehog fan game, where players can roleplay as either an available Sonic character or their own original character.
A separate game, meant for testing future updates, can be accessed here.
On March 31, 2018, the game was updated to V3, with a new map, new NPCs, and new features. Players can either head to the new map, or opt in for old V2 map.
On July 21, 2018, Suggyiem announced that the development stopped and the game has been abandoned, but currently a new Sonic game, Sonic Pulse, is being developed.
Gameplay and Environment[]
An example of a user-created character (V2)
A player has the choice to either play as an available Sonic character (V2 ONLY) or creates their own character. When creating their own character, they can choose from available characteristics to construct them. Afterwards, they can create a name, type a bio, customize their alternate forms, and select animations (V3 ONLY).
Besides roleplaying, there are plenty of things a player can do. They can collect rings, the main form of currency, that are scattered randomly and regenerate over time (red star rings give 5 rings, there are gamepasses that increase the value), and later buy further customization options with them at various NPC shops.
The lobby, which allows the player to enter either the old or new map, consists of a gray building in space. It holds chairs and tables, portals to the 2 maps, and a back room showcasing fan art created by other players.
Old Map (V2)[]
The old map takes place in a very small town consisting of a park, court, library, hotel, 2 stores, a bar, and 2 houses and surrounded by a barrier.
Chao are scattered around the game. When a player finds them, they can add it to their Chao collection and bring it along.
There are other areas the player can visit beyond the town. In the hills, a secret hole can be entered, which holds a portal. It leads to the outside of the town, complete with a dark post-apocalyptic landscape, red floors, and dead trees covered with purple fungi (see Backstory for an explanation to this). A portal located in an upstairs room of one of the houses connects to a secret laboratory holding strange Mobians with purple patterns on them and in suspended animation, with two that have seemly escaped. A trapdoor in the other house leads to a large underground bunker. Players can access a secret trash can world by going outside town, falling between the front walls, and entering the trash can located there.
As an Easter Egg, Happy Mask Salesman, from Legend of Zelda, can be found outside of town.
Old Map (V3)[]
The old map is same as the V2 map, except the models are improved, the terrain is remastered to be smooth, and trapdoor to bunker, trash can world, and Happy Mask Salesman are removed.
New Map (V3)[]
The new map takes place in a small town placed in a plain surrounded by small hills. The town consists of an arcade, hotel, 3 stores, 5 houses, a library, a restaurant, and a broken down house. Unlike V2, which always takes place in night, there's a day-night cycle. Players can chat with NPCs. In the same house used to access the secret lab in V2 is a portal to presumbly outside of town, which is a ruined version of the old map of V2.
Chaos, Fake, and Sol Emeralds are scattered around the game. The player must collect 7 of either Emeralds to unlock either their Super, Dark, or Burning form.

Backstory[]
Spoilers present below. Read at your own risk.
V2[]
The game's nightmarish apocalyptic backstory can be revealed by reading the books at the library.
A long time ago, the world was pleasant and anyone could visit any place of it. However, one day, the day ended suddenly and night came. Everyone saw a dramatic lunar eclipse and stars becoming fire.
A mysterious hedgehog, with red eyes and a crimson red glow, appeared and released large black smog into the world. Whoever inhaled the smog would grow purple fungi, exhibit aggressive behavior, and eventually attack others violently. (The smog's side effects are referred to as the "Corruption".)
Fortunately, another strange hedgehog, with green crystals on his quills, came out and with powerful energy, rid most of the smog. The surviving and uninfected were led by him to the mountains to shelter there. Nevertheless, smog followed them there.
The hedgehog teleported everyone to the small town the game takes place, surrounded it with a forcefield, and ensured that everyone would be safe there forever. He left to fight evil in the outside world and, along with the evil hedgehog, was never seen ever again.
In a secret hole with the portal to the outside, the player can find several written notes laying on the table. It suggests that someone had failed to create a portal to the outside world, and after his death, his apprentice offered to complete the portal and go outside. Later notes that are found in a room in the outside world can be inferred that the apprentice nearly was corrupted, fortunately, was saved by someone else, most likely the good hedgehog.
The secret laboratory may be possibly linked to the apocalypse, as it hints that the good and evil hedgehog came from here, thanks to the two busted containers and the statue.
V3[]
The game takes place after the events of V2, as evidenced by the V2 map ruins outside of town. In a conversation with Theo, it is found out that the hero moved the inhabitants to a new town. In a conversation with Nisa, it is found out that Nisa used to be friends with the hero.
The laboratory in the remastered old map provides more info about the lab's purposes. Four notes laid by the computer can be read, revealing that someone had created another portal to the outside, found several corrupted Mobians, set up a lab, and analyzed them, in an attempt to find a cure. Two corrupted hedgehogs escaped during the 29th day of the analysis. Suddenly, on the 129th day, the attempt failed and the researcher ended up being corrupted. The player can enter a secret passage and, at the end, find an unconscious corrupted white hedgehog laying, with a note clenched in his hand. The note reveals the researcher's name as Illuminus and that he sent himself to eternal sleep, so that he wouldn't attack others.
Illuminus can be inferred to be the apprentice who went to the outside world and the alleged hero.
Trivia[]
This section is a trivia section. Please relocate any relevant information into other sections of the article.
- Despite being a Sonic the Hedgehog fangame, Crossover Sonic 3D RPG relies more on original content, mild "down-to-Earth" style, and lore, rather than canon content and the recurring conflict between Sonic and Eggman.
- The good hedgehog might've been Virus, Suggyiem's Sonic OC.
- The character selection button was removed in V3. Only now you can only make your own customized Sonic.
