Crossfire is a game developed by Wingman8. The place Crossfire uses was created on January 26, 2009; however, Crossfire itself did not release until May 4, 2012. This game has 53,000 visits and over 1,500 favorites. Crossfire was inspired by a game from the 70s that had the same name. Crossfire is not the last game created by Wingman8, but it is perhaps his most overlooked. Crossfire has not been updated since January 6, 2013, and it was likely broken by filtering enabled.
General Game[]
The goal of the game is to push the balls into the enemy towers to destroy them using lasers; the team that destroys the most towers wins. The game ends when all towers are destroyed or when the timer runs out. When a tower is hit with a ball, it will explode, and the half of the bridge connected to that tower will disappear piece by piece. When the green and purple balls go out of bounds, they will move back to the center of the map. When the yellow ball goes out of bounds, it will be moved to the opposite side and given fast velocity. A ball is considered out of bounds when it rolls off the field onto the base floor. If a player tries to touch a ball, they will die as if they exploded.
Bots firing lasers
Bots will be generated to replace missing players if there are fewer than 5 people on a team (this counts undecided players as well). The bots aren't very smart, but they got the job done.
Every match appears to be made up of 5 rounds, each round is called a "Heat". Every round has a timer of 3 minutes. Between each round, there is a 30-second timer to hop up onto a tower before the game starts. During this 30-second window, the floor will be black, and it will be safe to climb a tower. After the round starts, the floor turns tan, and should you try to jump up, you will start to smoke for 5 seconds before dying. If you try to climb an enemy tower, you will die. It is possible, though, to reach a tower after a match has started if you get lucky with the tower placement. You will not be counted as surviving if you manage to get back onto a tower after dying. In the bottom right, there is a timer with how much game time is left. You can't change teams while a round is active, and you also can't unbalance the teams.
At the end of every round, it will give the following messages based on who won:
- Tie game!
- Blue Wins!
- Red Wins!
If the timer runs out, it will also mention that the game time was exceeded. Below that, it will list the people left surviving on the field. If there is no one left on the field, it will say as much. If a player has survived multiple times in a row, it will show their survival streak by their name. Your streak needs to be 2 or higher to be shown. If you die, you will lose your streak.
On the leaderboard, there are three stats:
- Won - number of games won
- Hit - number of times player participated in taking out a tower
- Left - number of times player was left on field at game end
To receive a hit, the player must be shooting at the ball up until it hits the tower.
On the left side of the screen, there are several UI elements. The change team button lets you change your team while a round is not active. The help button will bring up information about the game. There is both a reset tool you can use to reset, as well as a reset button in the UI. Below that, there is a log button for looking at the log.
Entire Map
The map itself consists of a large octagonal arena wall surrounding a field. The field is a large rusted circle. Based on old game thumbnails, the circle was likely supposed to resemble grass, but Roblox updates changed its appearance over time to look more rusted. On top of the arena wall are 3 spawn pads on the sides for both teams, and a billboard likely used for the game's thumbnail back in v1.0. Within the walls perimeter, towers will respawn at the start of every round. Interestingly, the towers are made of several rectangles to form a cylinder instead of just using a cylinder. The tower configuration appears to be randomized at the start of every match, but it remains the same throughout each 5 rounds. A random configuration for the towers will be made for the red team, and then flipped for the blue team. Bridges will be formed between towers near each other. Every tower will try to generate 2 - 4 bridges. Half of the bridge is connected to either end of the tower. A slightly transparent rusted line runs through the middle of the circle; it's slightly darker than the rest of the field, and it's known as the neutral zone. The balls will spawn randomly along the neutral zone when the game begins.
Firing lasers examples
The laser tool, named "LaserC", will fire wherever the player points. The maximum range for the laser may be around 600 studs. A sound effect will play, and white sparks will fly where a laser hits something. When the laser first hits a surface, it will reflect off in another direction to hit another one. It will stop when it hits the 2nd surface. The lasers will pass through the glass bridges connecting the towers together, it will also pass through other laser beams and the bots. There are some objects the laser can't reflect off of, such as the floor or the balls. When a ball is hit, it will play a different sound effect, and red sparks will fly as the ball absorbs the laser. The laser will push the ball with a strength depending on what power it's at. The lasers have no real effect on anything other than the balls. You automatically equip the laser upon spawning in.
Laser UI
Lasers
As the player uses the laser, it will build up heat as seen in the bottom left GUI. If you stop using the laser, it will allow the heat buildup to decrease. Should the heat enter the red, it will take longer to cool down until it lowers back into the green. If you overheat the laser, you won't be able to use it until the heat lowers back into the green on the bar. You can fire the laser for 33 seconds before it overheats. Laser power is weaker while you are on the arena wall. Once you join the game by entering the field, your laser power will grow.
The laser will be a different color depending on which team you're on. The laser itself will look different depending on what level of power it's at. When the power is lower, the laser will be much smaller in size, but when the power is higher, the laser will be much larger. The size of the laser beam will reflect the size of the laser itself.
Other[]
Crossfire has had several game thumbnails over the years. Due to how game thumbnails worked at the time, the v1.0 thumbnail was made by putting images on a board, then lining the camera up with the board. This same board remains on the map to this day. After that, it would appear that the map itself was left as the thumbnail. Because the game has not been updated since 2013, any changes to the thumbnail have been caused by how Roblox itself presents it. It is possible there are more thumbnails that are lost to time.

Version History[]
| While this timeline does contain every update Crossfire had, it's likely missing a few details before it became Crossfire. This timeline was created through searching through the Wayback Machine. For the first few years this place existed, it was not Crossfire. From 2009 - early 2010, it would be Touch Test, where Wingman8 documented some issues he was having. By July 22, 2010, it had been changed to unused 6, and would remain an empty baseplate for a while. Judging by the thumbnails from late 2010 - 2012, he may have briefly developed some games, such as Galleons and Armored Patrol, with unused 6. Crossfire would release in 2012.

Bugs[]
While parts of this game still work, not enough of it does to really make it a playable experience. There are several issues relating to the laser in the game; the leading theory is that the game was broken by filtering enabled. This means that if the lasers are client-side, it explains why they can't interact with anything anymore. You cannot see other people's lasers; they will appear as a box or cylinder on their arm, and their arm won't move. You can see laser models floating over the void when they equip it, though. You also cannot see the laser they shoot. This also means the game can't register that a laser is hitting a ball anymore, so it won't be pushed, and it won't know a hit came from your player. This effectively makes the game unplayable, although if you're lucky with the ball placement, you can push one into a tower by walking into it. These are some smaller bugs:
- Each tower appears to try to make at least 2 bridges. If a tower is only able to form one bridge, it will generate one to a tower connected to the tower that the first bridge formed to. This results in a bridge being generated through an already existing bridge.
- You cannot use the laser if you equip it in the sky spawn box. Should you try to use one anyway, it will appear as a cylinder in your hand.
- The bots will still try to fire at the balls. The laser itself will sometimes hit the wall and bounce away. Other times, though, the laser just goes through the wall when trying to hit the balls. Regardless, though, their lasers fail to do anything. The bots do appear to generate, but they aren't placed at the towers.
- Bots don't appear to despawn at the end of the match. Over time, this will build up and cause a slight lag, slowing down the time counter. After about 2 hours, 1 second becomes 2 seconds.
- If you drop the laser and pick it back up again, it will no longer function. Depending on what power the laser was at when you dropped it, the rectangle you hold in your hand will be at a smaller or larger size.
- Sometimes, during map generation, you can fall through the map if a tower generates on top of you and pushes you through the floor.
- If you shoot something with the laser and it spawns the white sparkle particles, then move your mouse to shoot a ball without letting go, the particles that were once white will turn red. You can also turn red particles white.
- While you can point with your laser on mobile, you don't appear to be able to fire it.
