Raids are the action of when a very large group of Roblox users spam content that flood the server or group wall. Raids are very common nowadays and are typically frowned upon by the majority of the community, who claim that it "ruins the experience."
Forum raids[]
Forum raids were a type of raid that happened when the forums were still around. They were one of the reasons that the forum was closed. Forum raids essentially had very large groups of people making threads about one topic, sometimes even spamming other threads to get the message too. Users who did this often got an account deletion, or if the user continued to spam the forum, an IP ban. Forum raids would sometimes get so out of hand, that the forums would have to shut down just to maintain control. An example of this is the Quackityishot forum raid incident.
Some users have noted that their accounts got compromised just to spam a phrase on the threads and use the account as a puppet account. This further increased the hate for forum raids.
In December 2017, the forums were closed. Due to this, forum raids can no longer be performed, which caused some backlash from small parts of the community.
Costume raids[]
Costume raids are a type of raid where a large group of people, dressed as the same thing, join a server, jump around and spam the chat. This type of raid is found annoying by most and can sometimes lead to a server shutdown. This type of raid is mostly performed by raid groups and famous YouTubers, and the target for these types of raids are almost always cafés. Due to this, some cafés have scripted an account age limit to join a game.
In January 2018, a YouTuber named DataRaven uploaded a video that may be one of the first known costume raids on Roblox. Due to this, a lot of people were inspired and began to make their own raiding groups. The most known example is the Flamingo Junkbot Raid, which broke Roblox and the Lil Nas X Concert event which happened on the same day due to the amount of people teleported. As seen in his video, 204k players initially raided Da Hood.
Raiding groups/clans[]
Many raiding groups host costume raids and are also responsible for most of the costume raids occurring in games. Raid groups commonly have a ranking system that is used to reward members for attending sessions (raids/trainings), and also have a management team, similar to café groups. Most raiding groups usually dress a specific outfit, which is commonly fruit and food-themed. Some other raiding groups aren't always specific, though. Some groups usually wear a different costume every raid.
Wars and drama among raiding groups can happen occasionally.
Throughout 2020 and 2021, many owners of popular raiding groups abandoned or closed their groups due to raiding becoming stale and boring. This led to a significant decline of interest in raiding, along with cafes and other roleplay and hangout games improving their security to prevent raids from happening.
Group wall raids[]
These types of raids were mostly as a substitute to the forum raids. Most of the things that happened in this type of raid mostly originated from forum raids and received similar reactions. Due to multiple scam bots spamming "GET FREE Robux GO TO (SCAMSITE)" (Do not go to any scam websites!) on the group walls, this type of raid is rarely used now. The only difference between these and Forum raids were that moderators were not patrolling the groups for spam and were mostly inactive, so players could say anything as long as it did not turn into hashes, this served as a green light for scammers and hackers.
