RetroStudio is a Roblox experience created by the developers of Retro Dev Roblox Verified Badge. RetroStudio is essentially almost the same as its older counterpart, RETROBLOX, because they both try to simulate Roblox from the 2009-2015 era. Unlike its counterpart, RetroStudio lets players create games in the game, using a built-in 2013 Roblox Studio. RetroStudio also has a built-in catalog feature, where players can purchase items and customize their 2013-esque avatar using the built-in Avatar Editor.

RetroStudio was nominated for Builderman Award of Excellence 2022.

Gameplay[]

Upon joining, there are a selection of games created by other players that take place in older versions of Roblox ranging from Early 2009 - Mid 2015. You can go to your avatar page, and change your avatars body colors, shape, and items. You can also visit the avatar shop to view the items onsale, with new catalog additions every few weeks and it has low quality by 480p-1080p which is on the versions.

Game page[]

Upon loading into Retrostudio, you immediately land in the game page, where you can choose to see many of the different games on the front page. Be warned, although there are bad games, its best to play games that have a high like to dislike ratio, and avoid the ones with vice-versa. You can also view "Top Rated" or "Featured," which are usually the games of highest quality.

Studio mode[]

Upon going to the build tab, you have a starter place. clicking edit will open it up in a 2008 - 2009 studio mode, with an in-game free model tab. You can use codes to import/export free models made by users, which are uploaded and found on their Discord.

Block coding[]

Block coding is a feature in RetroStudio used to script things in Studio mode, mainly through the usage of script Blocks opposed to a language.

Retrobux[]

Retrobux is the official currency of RetroStudio. It's used to buy items in the catalog and badges for games. Players can get Retrobux by place visits, joining the game daily, buying them, and rarely promocodes.

Catalog[]

Upon switching to catalog tab, there are many items to buy, such as classics like the Shaggy, Sk8r Boi, Robloxian 2.0, Radical Orange Helmet, Silly Fun, and many other items. Many of the items are suggested through the Discord server, and are added in large batches nowadays, unlike the past, where it was added + coded manually, and small-medium batches were added once or twice every few months.

As of 2025, some of the best selling catalogues include Love Banded Suit & Tie, L'amante Jacket, Love Branded Suit Pants, Cupid's Toga and many more.

Going Under Review[]

On December 13, 2021, Retrostudio suddenly went Under review. Many players have started speculating and fearmongering about what could have happened, however, Cristiano100, the lead developer, claimed that the game would return in 1–3 days. After 1 day the game came back.

On May 25, 2022, Retrostudio again went under review. As usual, many people started fearmongering and suspecting the cause of this 2nd incident, with rumors starting of people plotting to have taken it down, or something known as "whining gui." On May 26, 9:11 AM EST, crazyblocks234 had stated, "We are working towards a solution regarding RETROSTUDIO. Thank you for your patience thus far.", and on May 27, 4:40 PM EST, Cristiano100 stated "The game was NOT shut down because of inappropriate or copyrighted content."[1] It was reopened on June 1, 2022.

Criticism[]

Although the game is being worked on hard by the developers, many issues pop up, particularly in game creation and the community.

  • Bypassed Games: As of recent, a user known as "Iwillendretrostudio" has been attempting to take down RetroStudio by uploading bypassed games with inappropriate thumbnails and games. This user has been reset and terminated. However, other people have done the same, but it still remains a problem within the community.
  • Lack of effort: Many front page games are very poorly made, example being a Free admin game, as the whole premise is to have free admin in an almost desolate base-plate, along with players abusing the admin commands.
  • Block coding and blacklisting: Many of the players who rely on block-coding to make a well-made game are constantly hassled by the blacklisting of certain words, as it makes it impossible to get their game going well when one of the features is impossible to code.
  • "Game era" trends: Many players follow a trend of using the same game era years to make games that are considered "bad" by many of other players, such as "Among us" games using the game era of Mid 2015, which many players consider to be unrealistic, as Among us didn't exist then, "ROBLOX NPC's are becoming smart!" games, as the first video was released in 2016, and the trend becoming popular in 2021, and "FNF" games, as the communities are perceived as "unfunny" and "annoying" by most, which usually leads to the games being disliked as being obvious trend-riders.
  • Game breakage: Sometimes after saving the game, the game could have broke all scripts, including spawns, admin commands, click-detectors, doors, and other models involving scripts. Many players were frustrated by this, as it happened randomly, and no one knew how to fix it. It happens when you don't reset after playtesting and then save the game, in the studio.
  • Bugs: Dating from September 3, 2021, the mobile jump button bug was fixed, as for a while it had been broken, making mobile players unable to play many games.
  • Broken features: Many classic things (such as skateboards, alexnewtron Roblox Verified Badgealexnewtron is a notable creator or influencer verified by Roblox Corporation. Learn more.'s YOU FAILED death screen, and Playrobot's Morph Magic) have suddenly broken, as Roblox has updated even more throughout the year-long period RetroStudio has been created. Many players/developers find these certain bugs angering, as for example, skateboards disappear in games that are below Late 2013. This may ruin the immersion for a developer making/recreating a skating game that took place in a timeline before Late 2013.
  • Non-block coded games: Due to block coding being released, many people find games that could be coded (such as SIMON SAYS) as redundant, as there is no need for manual games at this point, and find the games as extremely low effort, as such games have been made with block-coding.
