Roblox Mobile, also known as the names Roblox iOS and Roblox Android, is the mobile application edition of the platform available to iOS devices (iOS 12.0+), Android devices (Android 6.0+), and Amazon Fire OS devices. The iOS version was initially released for beta testing in 2011 and later released to the public on December 11, 2012.[1] The Android version was released in the Google Play Store on July 16, 2014, and later in the Amazon App Store on October 30, 2014.[2][3] The application provides a similar experience to the Roblox website and desktop client, including the ability to join experiences, the marketplace, character customization, friends, groups, messages, and more.
When the app first was released, it was rated 4+ in the App Store and E10+ in Google Play (similar to ESRB ratings).[citation needed] The App Store rating was later raised to 9+ in 2015, and then raised to 12+ in 2016.[citation needed] The Google Play rating was later raised to T on September 8, 2022.[4]
Comparison of Roblox mobile and desktop versions[]

A texture rendering bug found on early versions of the iOS version, showing car models as two large blocks.
Due to the limited capabilities of many mobile devices, in-experience graphics on mobile editions of Roblox are comparable to lower graphics settings on the desktop client. Some features, like dynamic lighting, are not available on mobile devices.
On all mobile devices, the experience will not run at full resolution; instead, it will run at quarter resolution with 4x MSAA (multi-sample anti-aliasing) to reduce stress on the graphics processor.
The mobile application also allows users to purchase Robux and Premium memberships through the App Store or Google Play Store, which meant that users could use gift cards and/or credit in either app store for their purchases. Historically, the mobile application offered different prices for different amounts of Robux when compared to the normal website, although the provided options are now the same on both platforms.
The Guest mode was available on the mobile website for a short period after its removal from the desktop website.
Supported devices[]
Apple[]
The following iOS devices are currently supported by Roblox:
- iPhone 5s or later
- iPad (5th generation) or later
- iPad mini 2 or later
- All iPad Air models
- All iPad Pro models
- iPod Touch (6th generation) or later
Supported iOS devices must be running iOS version 12 or higher to use Roblox. Device models older than the iPhone 7, 7 Plus, iPod Touch (7th generation), and iPad Air 2 commonly struggle to run many experiences without lag spikes or other issues. The iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and X run most games at a steady 60 FPS.
Android[]
All Android devices running Android 6 (Marshmallow) or higher and supporting at least OpenGL ES 3.0 are supported by Roblox. Older or lower-end devices commonly struggle to run many experiences without lag spikes or other issues.
Roblox previously supported Android 5 (Lollipop) but later ended support on April 30, 2024.[5]
Amazon Fire OS[]
The following Amazon Fire OS devices are currently supported by Roblox:
- Kindle Fire HDX 7 (3rd generation)
- Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 (3rd generation)
- Fire HDX 8.9 (4th generation)
- Fire HD 6 & 7 (4th generation)
- Fire HD 8 & 10 (5th generation)
- All 5th generation Fire devices except the Amazon Fire HD 2013
ROBLOX Mobile HD[]
ROBLOX Mobile HD is a discontinued iOS app that launched on August 29, 2014, and received no updates.[6]
Criticism[]
The mobile edition of Roblox is often criticized for its tendency to drain the battery life of many devices, along with causing them to heat up rapidly. It is also criticized for its many bugs, such as the inability to use some Gears due to their reliance on keyboard presses.
Up until early 2016,[7] Roblox developers could use an API provided by Roblox to display video ads to players in their experience in exchange for Robux on a per-impression basis,[8] which caused further criticism for experiences using this feature,[citation needed] along with the Roblox platform as a whole.
