Roblox FPS Unlocker is a free and open-source program for Microsoft Windows that removes the default frame rate limit of 60 FPS within the Roblox application. It allows players with monitors that refresh at more than 60 Hz to have smoother gameplay. It can be configured to an FPS limit of the user's choosing or with no FPS limit.

As of August 2023, Roblox has begun rolling out native FPS unlocking to select Windows users. For users not yet a part of this rollout, the third-party program must still be used to achieve fully unlocked FPS.

On May 30, 2024, Roblox officially released its native FPS unlocker available to all users,[1] rendering this third-party program obsolete and leading to its discontinuation.

Use in glitches[]

The program has notably been utilized for glitches, which are now mainly resolved. The usage of glitches may be enhanced by decreasing the FPS limit, as low FPS interferes with the Roblox physics, allowing players to somehow go through walls.

The glitches below require use for the FPS unlocker:

  • Gear clipping / Item clipping
  • Wall climbing
  • Flat wall clip
  • Luck clip

History of bans[]

Around June 21, 2018, there were reports of bans being enforced on players using the FPS unlocker. This was the result of Roblox detecting the tool as an exploit. However, the issue was later resolved.

On August 11, 2019, during the Roblox Developers Conference 2019, Vice President of Engineering Adam Miller guaranteed that the usage of the FPS unlocker will not be punished on Roblox.

Around the time Hyperion, Roblox's security software, was released, some users reported FPS Unlocker being detected by it, such as an explorer popup with a message displaying to remove the exploit.
