Not to be confused with the Roblox app which is used to run Roblox Player.

The Roblox Player[1] is a client that runs on the Roblox and can connect to a area hosted by a Roblox server, essential for playing on Roblox. Roblox provides users the client which can be downloaded through the website, prompted when clicking a play button. The client is already installed for Roblox Mobile and the Roblox app available on the Microsoft Store. The client also has a built-in web browser for desktop users designed only for browsing the Roblox website.
The client had in-game editing tools built in, which would later be reused in separate software known as Roblox Studio. In 2022, the client would be embedded into an app (with UI resembling Roblox Mobile) which has features similar to a web browser. On April 27, 2023, a 64-bit client with Hyperion built in would be rolled out to users as beta release, and would be released for all users on May 3, 2023, ending compatibility support for 32-bit users. Roblox would also block the use of Wine, essentially disallowing Linux users from playing Roblox.
Web browser[]
The Roblox Player has a built-in web browser for desktop users designed for browsing the Roblox website.
The browser automatically stores a user's Roblox credentials once the user visits a place signed in or logs in through the browser, so that if the user returns to the browser, the browser will remember and logs in for the user automatically.
A link leaving the Roblox website will display a notice on click and will only open the device's default browser to access the destination page.
Legacy browser[]
- Main article: ROBLOX Browser
Previously, the Roblox Player, along with Roblox Studio, had an embedded browser functioning as a window which users were required to use before playing any place.
Roblox announced on July 31, 2012, that the browser was changed to open the Roblox website on the device's default browser instead, and that the browser had been officially discontinued.[2]
Executables[]
On Windows, there are two main executable programs: RobloxPlayerLauncher.exe, the launcher which is downloaded through the website and responsible for downloading and launching the client, and RobloxPlayerBeta.exe, the client which is used to run Roblox's engine and the built-in web browser.
Clicking on a play button on the Roblox website will open the launcher if using a different web browser. This may require authorization first before it can open the launcher and connect to the place.
History[]

The Roblox client in February 2007,[3] showcasing features reminiscent of present-day Roblox Studio at the time
From 2006 to 2008, the client was very simple and had a game editing tool embedded into the client, which is now known as Roblox Studio. Very little aspects from the original client currently remain in today's client GUI (such as the “reloading” cursor; this was later tweaked in the future).
In 2009 the GUI within the client received an overhaul. This overhaul focused more on simplicity on borders and chat bubbles, as well as adding NPCs in games that had their own independent chat GUI. The ability to take a snapshot from within the client was also implemented.
The ability to record within the client was added in 2011. The Player list also saw a change for the first time. Builders Club badges were now visible in the Player List. The Backpack was also overhauled.
This was the latest overhaul of the GUI back in 2015. This overhauled the whole appearance of the client, such as the Chat window, Player list, and Hotbar/Backpack GUI.
In 2022, this client was revamped from the ground up, with the client becoming an actual app, which is currently a modified version of Roblox Mobile, however it will receive its own UI in the future.

Both 32-bit and 64-bit client displayed in the Task Manager. Top is 32-bit; bottom is 64-bit. Hyperion is 64-bit only.
On April 27, 2023, the 64-bit version beta client was released with Hyperion built in,[4] and was rolled out to users with the "zwinplayer64" channel, different from 32-bit clients that were in production release at the time ("LIVE" channel). As part of testing, the channel is specified for each user. Users can check if they have the 64-bit client by viewing their channel in the About page of the client, below the options.[5] Alternatively, users can visit https://clientsettings.roblox.com/v2/user-channel?binaryType=WindowsPlayer, or use Task Manager to determine if their client is 64-bit.[6]
On May 3, 2023, the 64-bit client version was released on the "LIVE" channel, affecting all users on Roblox.[7][8] Because Hyperion is only built into the 64-bit client, the release would also mean the end of compatibility support for 32-bit users. Roblox also blocked the use of Wine, essentially disallowing Linux users from playing Roblox.[9][10]
