Roblox VN

Roblox VN, also known as Roblox Vietnam or Roblox - VNG, is the Vietnamese version of Roblox developed by Roblox Corporation and published by VNG Corporation. The beta access version of the app was released to a subset of users on June 26 (1st wave) and July 22 (2nd wave), and the full version has been released on August 13 for Android and iOS. The app itself, despite having strict changes to comply with Vietnamese laws, has a less strict Terms of Service compared to Luobu.

Main features[]

The performance and optimization of this version has greatly received a significant boost compared to the main global version.
The localization is set to Vietnamese by default (it can still be changed to another language).
Unlike Luobu, which is only limited to play in local Chinese servers, Roblox VN allows users in Vietnam to play with other users outside Vietnam.
The app requires you to entering personal info, citizen ID (Identity Card/Citizen Identification Card) in order to purchase Robux and Premium, and creating account. However, this later got removed in second wave of early access due to it received a strong pushback, which some players in Vietnam criticized how this was unnecessary.
- The requirements has been added back on September 9, but then on September 13, VNG removed it.

Background[]

On April 2, 2024, at the time when Roblox met issues with some ISPs in Vietnam, VietNamNet posted an article of a possible launch of a Vietnamese version of Roblox (which is the earliest mention of Roblox VN). According to the article, a domestic publisher was processed to legal documents to get to distribute officially operating in the Vietnamese market.^[1]

On May 11, 2024, during the Vietnam Gameverse 2024 event, Roblox announced its partnership with VNG Corporation, confirmed that VNG will become the official publisher of Roblox in the Vietnamese market and is expected to be officially released in Vietnam this summer on iOS and Android platforms.^[2]

Development[]

In preparation for Roblox VN's release, on May 30, 2024, a Facebook account named "Trường học Roblox", which is previously a Vietnamese Roblox community account, rebranded into Roblox VN alongside with their official Facebook group^[3], and become official and having verified checkmark on June 6.^[4] VNG later published a roadmap of Roblox VN^[5], which they planned to release a beta app around June and will exit the beta access into full version around July. The beta access of the app was planned to release on June 18, however it was delayed due to Google Play regulations and so later the beta access was delayed to June 26 restricted to a subset of users.^[6]^[7] An exclusive Roblox bundle made for users joining Roblox VN was later released.^[8] VNG later announced the second wave of beta access along with the first update for Roblox VN on July 22, with a few minor changes has been added such as the updated login screen, quick login feature, and updated game details page.^[9] However, later at the same version, the updated login screen and game details has been reverted to the current one, likely due to these features pushed from internal build. On July 30, a second and also minor update for preparation of Roblox The Games, version 2.635.590, has been released, which coincidentally used the same latest Roblox builds and version. A third minor update (v2.636.626) was later rolled out with no changes added.

Eventually, on August 13, 2024, VNG announced that Roblox VN (known then as Roblox - VNG) is officially released on iOS and Android.^[10] The Vietnamese language interface version for Roblox Studio was also made available on August 2, two weeks before Roblox VN released^[11].

Roblox VN payment portal[]

Following the release of Roblox VN on August 13, VNG later launched the Robux package charging portal on VNGGames Store. Unlike the Robux package page on main global version of Roblox, VNG's official Robux charging portal is entirely different compared to main version of Roblox. To buy it via VNGGames Store, it asked you to enter your Roblox username first, then you will select Robux package to buy. After that, it will ask you to select payment method, including ZaloPay, VietQR, bank or using international credit cards in order to complete payment to buy Robux package. Notably, aside of using international credit cards to buy Robux package, support payment for ZaloPay, VietQR and bank has been added^[11].

If users in Vietnam trying to buy Robux in main global Roblox desktop page, a pop-up will notify you that you will redirect to VNGGames' Robux shop instead, although the main global page of buy Robux payment can be invoked by entering "roblox.com/upgrades/robux".

Buying Robux package through official VNG's charging portal used to be 13% cheaper than buying via Google Play Store, and 33% cheaper than buying via Apple App Store.^[12] However, as of recent March 13 change, it is now 38% cheaper than Apple App Store and Google Play Store, making it as the cheapest Robux package official charging portal in Vietnam.

On December 3, 2024, VNG announced that Zing physical scratch card support for buying Robux is now available, with the 50.000 VND (≈1.97$) card available first, through you need to buy a Zing physical scratch card on a convenience store or cyber game. On May 28, 2025, VNG added 2 new card, which include 20.000 VND (≈0.77$) and 100.000 VND (≈3.85$) to the section.

Starting from March 13, 2025, Robux package price will officially be adjusted via Roblox's system worldwide price, with a slightly increase on Google Play, Apple App Store, and Roblox VN official payment portal. Additionally, the 25% bonus when buying Robux package from 400, which is available only for PC, is now available on Roblox VN payment portal.^[13]

Forced migration[]

In August 21, 2024, Roblox has started to force all players who has set or had their account region settings set to "Vietnam" to migrate to the Roblox-VNG version, which immediately takes effect for all players who attempt to sign in into the global version. The app despite itself has been delisted from both App Store and Google Play, many players tried to use sideloading method or changing their region to a different country. As a last resort, Roblox has officially pushed off all players from Vietnam attempting to get into the global version.

Vietnamese players who are using the PC app version, or Microsoft Store version can still log in without any problems. This change only affects players on iOS and Android mobile players, although Android mobile users can close the migration pop-up by pressing back button.

On November 21, 2024, Roblox announced that the global version of Roblox will be discontinued to users in Vietnam after December 12 via official Roblox VN Facebook, in order to comply with regulatory requirements, thus urging Vietnamese players to download and switch to Roblox VN. However, after December 12, the global version somehow still unhidden, and some people kept the global version still got update by default, thus some people pointed out that VNG may lying to users.

Known bugs[]

Hybrid bugs[]

On June 30, 2024, unknown users found a bug that allowed them to create a hybrid account between the VNG and global versions. In a interview with RO:VN, the anonymous player shared how to spot this bug with the unique combination from 2 different versions. In it, the hybrid account can still log in between 2 versions and get free bundles exclusively for Roblox VN players. Although some features like Voice chat have been completely disabled, the anonymous account is still allowed to register for Premium packages.^[14]

The issue was later posted on July 4 on the Developers Forum detailed that using the API to agree to Roblox VN's TOS on a global account can become “Hybrid” and lose access to the following features, including unable to send messages via the messaging system on the website, losing Voice chat access and joining VIP servers.^[15] However, if the user logged out of said hybrid account and attempted to log back in, it gives the prompt to download the Roblox VN app. On July 24th, the DevForum post was marked as fixed, although currently affected hybrid accounts are still affected. On August 3rd, it was confirmed by Roblox Support that there will be a way to revert hybrid accounts on the official release of Roblox VN.^[16]

Voice chat[]

During the early access launch, users encountered a bug that disabled Voice chat and the toggle has been removed (although user has ID-verified to access). VNG later confirmed about the bug in a second FAQ post and will fix it in further upcoming beta build. On July 25th, VNG confirmed that the bug that disabled Voice chat has been completely fixed.^[17] ^[18]

Global Roblox access issue[]

Currently, some functions of both the global Roblox website and app cannot be accessed using DNS servers assessed by Vietnam ISPs, but the issue could be resolved by using VPNs or changing DNS server assignment. As of now, this was partially fixed in several users.
