Current Roblox death sound.

The Roblox death sound is the sound that plays when a character resets or breaks in-game. It also plays as a sound test when the player changes the volume bar in the settings tab.

From Clients from 2006 to 2013, the old death sound was called "uuhhh.wav" in the game files. From 2013 to July 26, 2022, the sound was called "uuhhh.mp3" in the game files. From July 26, 2022 to July 18, 2025, the new death sound was called "ouch.ogg" in the game files. As of July 18, 2025, the famous sound that was called "uuhhh.wav" , in the files, also known as the "OOF" sound has came back.

Origin

When the original sound is viewed using the sounds Metadata from pre-2013 clients, it will show that the audio was created on September 18, 1999, using Sound Forge 4.5 and was originally created by Joey Kuras. The original sound was first used in a computer game named Messiah.

Meme

The original Roblox death sound is also a meme throughout and outside of the Roblox community. The usage of this meme refers to the ridiculous nature of its sound. There have also been instances of people making music or remixes or even censoring swear words using the audio file.

In some instances, the Bighead and BiggerHead are associated with the original death sound.

The message on mobile

When adjusting the volume in the Roblox application in-game, the game will trigger the Roblox death sound based on the volume the player has set. This is used to indicate how loud or soft the volume is to the player, which will help the player better adjust the volume based on the game's sound. The feature was added in early 2017, after the spread of the meme in late 2016.

From late 2018 to late 2020, scrolling down to the bottom of any page on a mobile device showed a message saying, "OOF! You’ve reached the end!"

This audio file called "Kid saying Ouch.wav" was left in the files until mid-2017, and it might have been planned to be the first death sound for Roblox, though it is unconfirmed.^{⁠[citation needed]}

Copyright disputes

In 2019, Roblox became involved in a copyright dispute with the death sound's copyright holder, Tommy Tallarico. Tallarico claimed that Roblox had obtained the sound effect from an illegal sound effects website and were using it without his permission. In response, Roblox said that David Baszucki and Erik Cassel got the sound from a stock licensed sound CD-ROM they purchased when they were developing the platform, not an illegal website like Tallarico had suggested.

In late 2020, an agreement between Tallarico and Roblox was reached, in which Roblox will remove the death sound after the Developer Marketplace comes out, and later re-implement the sound as a purchasable sound asset for 100 Robux.

In addition, Tallarico also created a sound effects kit which Roblox developers can purchase for their own use with prices ranging from $10 to $250 depending on the number of sounds purchased in the kit.

Previous Roblox death sound (2022–2025).

On July 26, 2022, the Roblox Twitter account announced that the sound would be updated later that day. Around an hour after the post, the sound was updated to a "deh" sound.

On July 29, 2022, all Roblox audio in the Creator Marketplace that contained the old death sound were replaced with the new death sound. There are currently still some audio that hasn't been converted, one of them which has the ID of 1237557124.

There are several claims that Tommy Tallarico claimed to have done that contradict a lot of things that were shown in the past, for instance, he has claimed that he created the original sound effect, but almost every source shown that the death sound is from is said to have been created by Joey Kuras, the sound designer for Tommy Tallarico Studios.

Return

On July 18th, 2025, Roblox officially announced that the original "OOF" sound would return on the Creator Marketplace. They uploaded a video of a noob-like character walking into the camera, and promptly exploding into pieces with the recognizable classic "OOF" playing. This marked a return of the sound effect after nearly three years.

It is now available for usage by any creator on the Creator Marketplace, listed under the Roblox account as "Official OOF Sound Effect".

The "deh" sound was still used on mobile and PlayStation until August 15th. As Of August 16th, The "OOF" sound returned as the default death sound for these consoles.

On July 31st, 2025, Roblox officially announced through X (Formerly Twitter) reposting to their announcement on July 18th saying “We heard you, check your default death sound” suggesting that the original “OOF” sound is officially back as the default death sound. In the game file, it is called as OOF.ogg and the previous ouch.ogg sound is still present in the game files though it is not used anymore.

Game

A group known as Direct Studios has created a game called "OOF!", which is themed around the OOF Sound. This is the most popular game on the platform which revolves around the sound. The "deh" sound was still used in roblox game called This Game has the DEH Sound
