Mad City is an open-world action game created by Schwifty Studios . It was created on December 3, 2017, reached the front page on January 28, 2019, and has consistently stayed on it since.

It is similar in concept to Jailbreak, which is arguably the most popular action game on the platform. Mad City has received praise for its distinctive features compared to the latter, and has also been criticized for being unoriginal and a "rip-off".

On April 4, 2020, Mad City surpassed one billion visits, and eventually on December 27, 2021, the game surpassed two billion visits.

Gameplay[]

Mad City, similarly to Jailbreak, utilizes elements of open-world action, role-playing and traditional Cops and Robbers genres. At the start of the game, the player has to choose 3 of the teams available in the game: Police, Hero, or Prisoner.

Teams[]

Police[]

Police Team

Police Team Icon

Police are given 3 items: a pistol-S, taser, and handcuffs. The handcuffs and the taser is exclusive to the police. Their main role is to arrest and/or kill guilty prisoners or escaped criminals and villains to send them back to the prison. The police players spawn inside the police station found in the Prison. Player limit of cop is ten in a server (formerly six, prior to Cluck Daddy boss fight), a VIP game pass required to join if cops team is full.

Prisoners[]

Prisoner Team

Prisoner Team Icon

Prisoners spawn in their prison cell temporarily before they can leave. The goal of the prisoners is to escape from prison and become Criminals. They can search for certain items, like containers, trash cans and boxes to have a chance to escape the prison, and in them are materials that can be used to craft C4 (bomb), a hammer, a knife to kill cops and heroes. Unfortunately, prisoners can't spawn vehicles in the Prison premises.

Criminals[]

Once the prisoner has escaped from the prison, their role will change to "Criminal". Criminals are able to rob a variety of locations, such as the casino, jewelry shop, and the bank. Then when they rob the location they will need to return the money to the criminal base. There's also a variety of mini-robberies, like two of the Red Houses and the Fruit Store etc.

Once dead, the criminal will spawn in their own base, however, if a police arrested them with a bounty of $10,000 and up to $50,000, the criminal will be sent back to prison and be a prisoner again. Otherwise, they will spawn on the Criminal Base.

Heroes[]

Hero Team

Heroes are another team of the game. The heroes are similar to the police except for arresting, their mission is to kill any criminal in the game and sent them back to prison. Heroes can also have their own set of superpowers in the game: Hotrod, Inferno, Proton, Vanta, Voltron, Frostbite, and Titan. with each unique abilities that can aid the heroes to eradicate the criminals. This team has limited to six players in a server, unless the player has a VIP game pass.

Once Hero gets killed, there will be a chance they will drop a power crystal, containing their prior ability. Then the criminal can grab the power crystal and get their superpower to become a villain.

Villains[]

Villains are the only team other than the Criminals that cannot be joined through the menu. Prisoners and Criminals immediately join this team when they pick up a Hero's power crystal, which has a random chance of dropping when the Hero is killed. Villains can enter the Villain Base underneath the Volcano, which allows them to become either Raven, Phantom or Rykou.

Rank[]

Mad City Rank Icon

The measurement of the XP bar determines how much experience needed to progress to the next rank. This can be accomplished by gaining XP from escaping the prison, robbing, arresting the criminals, etc. Every 5, 15 or 20 ranks you can get a limited time reward from the season.

In Season 5 of Chapter 1, the Rank cap was removed, allowing players to reach beyond Rank 100, and unlock secret rewards. In Chapter 2, players reaching Rank 100 will allow to Prestige up to five times. Perks of Prestige are unlocking of current Rank 100 vehicle season reward also allow them to upgrade or downgrade them, and also allow them to teleport on the Test Game, to test the upcoming Mad City update before they release it to the public.

There are three jobs that can be completed for XP and Cash.

  • Laundry - The player washes laundry. Grants 10 XP and $25 upon completion.
  • Stamping - Players have to stamp mails at the exact time to get the job done, this grants 1 XP.

Treasure map[]

Treasure map

Treasure map

There will be an NPC on an island next to a crashed pirate ship. A message in a bottle can be found by going around the shores of the map.

The message in a bottle containing the treasure map seems to be entirely random.

One of them crosses on the map will lead to the real key while the other two are fake. After you get the key, return to the pirate ship to open the Cursed Chest and redeem $10,000. Unfortunately, this feature has been removed due to Pyramid Heist update.

Bosses[]

Bosses are a type of event that started in Season 2 and currently up to Season 7. As of right now there have been 6 bosses in Mad City:

  • Cluckles
  • Kua Kua
  • Cluck Daddy
  • Star Lord
  • Mech Cluckles
  • Reindeer Boss

Trivia[]

This section is a trivia section. Please relocate any relevant information into other sections of the article.

  • Two of the red houses in the towns can be robbed for up to $6700 each.
  • The Plane used to cost $50,000.
  • The Cursed Chest used to give the Dutchman superpower until the Phantom hero was added to replace it.
    • Phantom was also a hero before Season 4.
  • Season 4 is the first Season to have more than one boss.
  • The mechanic of picking up a Hero's superpower was originally an accident, as the Heroes would sometimes drop the gear that gave them the powers, which allowed criminals and even cops to pick it up and gain those superpowers.
  • In a separate Mad City test game (prior to Chapter 2 announcement), heroes was supposed to have handcuffs similar to those cops to arrest criminals, but it was scrapped and not implemented in the game.
  • Season 7 is the first Season to be longest-running season for nearly two years.
    • The reason after the announcement of the Chapter 2 update in December 2020, the developers are taking more time to work on the "recode" of the game, although despite of delays, they work for the both updates as transition to Chapter 2, aside from patching some bugs.
      • Chapter 2 update will be released on July 23, 2022, at 1PM ET, in time of the second Live Event.
    • Season 7 is the last Season for Chapter 1.
  • After Christmas event of Chapter 2, the game is dying because of tons of glitches on daily quests and normal quests. It has 1k to 2k of players online playing.
