The Shift lock option on the Roblox client.
The Shift Lock symbol.
Shift lock (also known as Mouse Lock Switch) is a feature on the Roblox client which allows Users to lock the camera's perspective with the User's movement in a 3rd person perspective when the shift key is pressed, it was added around early 2011, In other words, the User will be in third person and move as if they are in first person. It can only be enabled on PC, Mac, or any other computer. Shift lock does not work on touchscreen PCs running the Microsoft Store (Windows 10/11) version Roblox client.
This can be very useful during obbies or sword fighting competitions for advanced maneuvers. However, in the case of BrickBattles it has received mixed reception as some Users of those Experiences believe it is less authentic to play with than the unlocked camera mode.
Developers can disable the feature in their own Experiences, which shows the message "Set By Developer" in Roblox's in-game settings menu. Many Experiences bind sprinting to ⇧ Shift without disabling the mouse lock switch, which may cause conflicts.
Shift lock button[]
Some Experiences have a built-in shift lock button scripted for mobile Users. An example is Tower of Hell, as well as most difficulty chart obstacle courses.
