Roblox Wiki

Recently Roblox has announced new updates to their terms of use (ToU) and community rules, along with some other changes to the site in relation to it. If you're a developer, these may be important to you!

Otherwise, make sure to agree with them, as you must be to agree with them to be using the site.

Remember, this is about Roblox and not our wiki. We aren't Roblox staff and don't manage these updates. This is just a reminder!

Summary of Community Rules changes

Developer guidelines

There is an entire new section dedicated to specifying rules for developers and content permitted in user-generated content (UGC), including games.

You can access the dev guidelines directly here.

Prohibited content

The list of content that is considered inappropriate or unsafe for Roblox (including discussion and development) has been changed.

Major additions include personal photos and inappropriate/unsafe memes.

This has also been clarified to be outright prohibited in any form on the site or by sponsorship of the site.

Promotional codes & prizes

Promotional codes are clarified to be disallowed from being an exchange. They must be fair and free.

Giveaways, contests, raffles and other promotions (typically off-site) are clarified, and are disallowed, as usual.

Exploits

Exploiting is clarified to entirely be prohibited in any form, and is grounds for instant termination.

Off-site links

On the Roblox site, off-site links are prohibited, except for appropriate & non-redirecting instances of YouTube, Twitch, or Twitter. Under 13 users still cannot view or access these links and may not post them.

Summary of ToU changes

"Free to Take" assets

Models, decals, meshes, and other non-clothing assets uploaded to Roblox are known to have a "Make Free [to take]" checkbox (for places, a copylock, which allowed enable to unlock). This has been changed (via. 6.B.3) into a "Allow Copying" box (same purpose, different name), that openly makes it royalty-free content to use in development projects on the Roblox platform.

If you don't want your content royalty-free (meaning they do not have to credit you and they can monetize your work without paying you anything), take your content OFF free to take (uncheck "Allow Copying") ASAP! This prevents developers from legally using your UGC without your permission, as it must be assumed to not be royalty-free.

Group Ownership rights

6.B.2 is revised to clarify that group owners are in control of user-generated content (UGC) created in the group's name, along with being responsible for actions of developers and other members in the group.

Roblox is now also directly in decision of right-granting to groups owned by deleted (terminated) users.

If you are part of a developer project, make sure to review these changes with your team, as they can affect legal proceedings and other rights when managing projects in coordination with your team.

SESTA

7.B is added in the intent of clarifying Roblox's stance and actions towards any predatory acts in relation to Roblox users that directly involves Roblox.

Concerns/reports of incidents involving predatory acts or other grooming can now be reported to Roblox using their support form.
